What does Black Mental Wellness mean to you?
Black Mental Wellness to me means awareness of self. It's the ultimate form of self-love - creating a space for you to lean into healthy habits that help you feel good about yourself and your decisions.
How do you promote change and well-being in the Black community?
I promote change and well-being in the black community by creating useful products, tools and resources that help us understand ourselves better and the people around us. Although personal, I've found there's beauty when you incorporate others on your journey - helping you remain more accountable, more intentional and more focused on your future, which allows you to be more present.
What are some upcoming events you are leading, that promote mental health and wellness, that you would like for our Black Mental Wellness audience to know about?
At UHSTEEM, we have our Quarterly Vision Board Hike in January to kick off 2025 with intentions and community. This is a space to not only see a beautiful view of the city but also see a beautiful view of whats to come for you. We also have a DAILY experience that will connect our community with each other for our first IRL meet up, happening in the first quarter of 2025.
Tell us about your educational and/or professional training, and current area of expertise related to mental health and wellness?
Over the past three years, I've taken six personal development courses through LANDMARK Worldwide from leadership training to self-discovery and more - with my expertise being in goal achievement, positive thinking and community building.
What are some ways that you promote mental health and wellness through your area of expertise (yoga instructor, clergy, mental health professional, etc.)?
Products, resources and tools that fuses personal development with entertainment.
What are some things that we should know about your area of expertise?
There's space for entertainment and personal development to merge - and we've found the perfect balance at UUHSTEEM that will help you do so in a meaningful, productive and exciting way.
How can we encourage more people to seek mental health treatment?
Be a safe space, where listening is greater than all other tools or resources.
What are your recommendations for ending stigma in the Black community?
My recommendation for ending the stigma in the black community of mental health is to not separate it from the entertainment we already enjoy - instead of treating them as two separate forms of the human experience - through music, films, television and products that we actually like.
What can potential clients expect during an initial session? Follow up sessions?
What you can expect from UHSTEEM is a space for you to truly be yourself - and with the focus being on where you are now and where you want to be to live the most fulfilling life you can think of. We really focus on your possibilities, with emphasis on daring to dream as big as you can.

Do you have an experience with seeking mental health treatment that you would like to share with the Black Mental Wellness audience?
I'm currently enrolled in therapy at BETTERHELP which has helped me continue to stay aligned with my values, ask questions and uncover blind spots that ultimately make me better.
What wellness strategies do you think should be given more attention within the Black community? Are there any reasons why you think they are not given more attention?
Positive thinking - it's always easier to be negative than to be positive, which requires focus and deliberate action. It's a lot of work to find the positive in everything and so people figure it's best to not do it.
Goal setting - There's negative connotations around not achieving a goal but I believe that not achieving a goal is the stepping stone to achieving it. It's the persistence that leads to success, growth and happiness.
How do you make time for your own wellness and self-care?
I make time for my own wellness with journaling, reading, exercising, and establishing new and exciting goals every morning.
What are your top 5 favorite wellness and self-care strategies?
My top 5 well and self-care strategies -
Celebrate a win from yesterday, no matter how big or small
Identify ten things I'm grateful for - daily
Establish a daily affirmation that I'll work towards every day
Visualizing your future
Deciding on a daily basis how I who I want to be and how I'd like to feel.
What resources do you find most helpful to encourage mental health and wellness?
I use DAILY daily which helps me be more intentional and accountable. I also enjoy taking courses to learn more about myself and watching YouTube videos from Master Key Society.
